Specialty Division Guidelines Print
TEACHER/PRO
Any professional or teacher may perform in this category.  This is defined as one receiving payment for their choreography or performance and/or instruction, but not STUDENT TEACHERS ages 19 years or less.  Student/Assistant Teachers choreographing a routine for themselves or for another student(s) must enter their routine in the STUDENT CHOREOGRAPHY DIVISION; however, she is still able to compete in the Regular Performance Division with choreography from a professional teacher.  This includes solo, duo/trio, all groups, lines, and may consist of any dance style.  Students may also perform with the teacher/pro.  Professional dancers and teachers may not compete in regular competition.  An Overall High Score Award will be presented.

STUDENT CHOREOGRAPHY

Any style of dance is allowed.  A student must choreograph the entire routine with no aid from a professional teacher, or dance in combinations used in other routines.  Choreographer does not have to perform in his or her routine.  Solo, duo/trio, and groups may be entered.  Routines may not compete in regular competition.  Student/Assistant Teachers would enter their choreography in this category.  An Overall Student Choreographer Award will be presented.


THE HOT SPOT!!

This is a category for the adventurous spirit!  You will be given a piece of music to study for 5 minutes.  This time will be used to create your personal style and choreography or improvisation that you’ll present for competition.  The music will be one minute in length; points will be deducted if dancer leaves stage early.  Following the solo competition, the “hot spot” soloists will assemble backstage to prepare to compete.  Good luck


DANCE DOWN

This is an experience for the dancer and the audience as they watch a combination of Jazz (approximately 32 counts) to be taught and performed right on the stage.  The dancers will learn the routine and compete in a process of elimination.  Awards will be given to the dancers who most successfully complete the audition.  There will be two levels: Junior ages 7-11, and Senior ages 12-18.  To participate in this audition, you will need a number tag which may be purchased at the event for $10.00.


ADULT SPECTACULAR

Any style and type of dancing will be allowed.  All contestants must be 19 years of age or older to compete in this category.  Solos, duo/trio, and groups permitted.  An Overall Adult Spectacular Award will be presented in the category.


PRODUCTION

A routine utilizing a minimum of 19 or more contestants, demonstrating any dance style or combination of dance categories using a theme.  Any ages or levels of training combined may be entered.  Props and special effects allowed.  An Overall Production Award will be presented.


PHOTOGENIC

Head or full body shots in B&W or in color permitted.  Submit one recent (within the last 12 months) 5x7 or 8x10 photo.  All pictures must be turned in 1 hour prior to the start of each division in which you are entered.  Please print your name, studio name, and phone number on the back of each photo. Any number of additional photos may be submitted. Photos will not be returned.  A High Score Award will be presented.


SHOWCASE

Be a part of this extraordinary experience where everyone has an opportunity to showcase their choreography and talent, without the pressure of being judged.  Duo/trio and groups are permitted in the Showcase Specialty Division (NO solos allowed).  Each performance will be critiqued via an audio tape; plus a video of the number will be given in this division.  Come share your talents, quality and choreography.


BALLROOM

Come and experience the hottest craze: “Ballroom!”.  Bring your partner and come and enjoy the fun and excitement.  All-couple dancing including, but not limited to: Fox Trot, Salsa, Swing, Waltz, and all Latin styles of ballroom dancing.  An Overall High Score will be awarded.  Must be appropriate for family viewing.
